In the distance, she can already hear the far away sounds of the sirens. She sets her gun down at her feet. She unclips her badge from her belt, puts it down right beside it. The spike of adrenaline is already starting to ebb and despite the cold, Olivia feels the pinprick of sweat under her arms, at the back of her neck. The air smells like blood now.
Her right index finger feels numb.
“I had no choice,” she repeats.
