    Summary

Behind them, tires ease into the gravel on the edge of the road. Steve doesn’t bother looking. A car door slams, and then Munson says, “I don’t need you to stand up for me, Harrington.”

Steve still doesn’t look at him. He swears he sees shadows moving in the thick brush, and he shivers a little. He says, “What, with Byers? He’s just scared for his brother.”

    “Yeah, I know that, dickweed.”

“Wow,” Robin says, voice low. “You were into that?”

Steve tilts his head, finally looks past where Robin is standing to see Munson, hair pulled back in a messy bun, denim vest shrugged on over the leather, ripped jeans baggy in all the wrong places, face flushed and scowling. “Unfortunately,” he says.

The package is a little different, but Steve knows deep down he’s the same protective, loyal, judgmental asshole he’s always been. It’s just, once upon a time, Steve was on the beneficial side of his personality disorder.

    Summary

“Back in tenth grade, he’d done his final report for World History on prophecies. The Greeks were kind of the last people who’d really made a big deal about it, even though there’d been recorded True Prophecies well into the 19th and 20th centuries. It was more that people had gotten weird about it — didn’t want to believe in predestination and a concrete future, even though it was something like a one in a billion chance you’d get a True Prophecy about yourself or even someone you knew; people just liked to feel special, Eddie thought, and hated when they weren’t — and so it had slid to the fringes of society and anyone who might have Sight got swept into the insular embrace of the Priestesses of the Quiet Sisters.” Or: Steve dies at the end. Or: a story about prophecies, love, and loopholes.

    Summary

Mike had scoffed, again, and Steve tried not to be insulted when he’d said, “Steve? Why Steve?”

“Because Steve’s had more Valentine’s than any of us combined!” Dustin had said.

    “Yeah, because he’s a serial monogamist —”

“Shut the fuck up,” Steve had said. “Also, who taught you those words?”

Eddie had teetered his hand back and forth in the air. “Personally, I think there’s a certain stolen RV confession negates that, but —”

“You shut the fuck up right now even faster —”

In which Mike and Eddie have a bet, Steve is the victim of circumstance, and he's not super mad about it.

“You’ll be fine,” Steve says. He discreetly pats at his pockets. Feels the handle of the switchblade. Touches Dustin one last time, a palm across his brow. “Look after him.”

“Hey, I—I don’t like your tone, man,” Eddie says. “We’re looking after him, together. Together, all right? Fucking promise me, Harrington.”

    Summary

Hop said it’s a bad habit he’s gotten himself into, these night drives. Patrolling the town when everyone’s asleep, nobody to ask the question of why Steve Harrington drives circles through Hawkins past midnight every night.

It’s nearing one a.m. and Steve sighs, because—shit. There's a van on the side of the road that wasn't there on his last lap.

He can’t drive off now. He’s already stopped. Already committed, so Steve swings his keys around his finger and sighs again. Opens the car door.

He comes to a stop a few paces away from the van. Raises his voice slightly when he says, “Hello?”

“Fucking—what, hello? What?” comes a voice from the other side of the van. “Who—jesus, if I’m about to get murdered, I swear to—wait. Harrington? Steve Harrington?”

Or; Steve patrols the streets of Hawkins every night, looking for monsters. One night, he finds Eddie.
