The realization takes a second to sink in, and when it does Nini feels vaguely like her heart is strangling itself to death. God.

Nini takes a deep breath, and very delicately turns her head to the side as much as she can to try and see for herself. The angle is bad, so all she can really see is the top of Myki’s head. Nini’s jacket has slipped down and off her shoulder, though, and she’s ninety-nine percent sure that what she feels on her bare skin is Myki’s cheek resting there, gentle exhales skittering across Nini’s upper arm.

Summary
When Ilya hears the crack, he’s not surprised. Even less so when he feels the blood start running down his face.
The refs intervene, finally, skating between Ilya and Shane and pulling them apart. Shane’s expression finally breaks and Ilya watches as his eyes widen in legitimate concern at the sight of Ilya’s blood.
Ilya responds by smiling at him, his pearly white, extremely fake teeth, immediately staining red.
