Summary
Being a medic, Webster had thought, was one of the best ways to experience the war. All of the action and less of the danger - the Geneva Conventions guaranteed medical neutrality, at least if the Germans were a shred of the respectable people he'd once thought them. He hadn't volunteered for it, but when they'd taken his M-1 and replaced it with a satchel of bandages and morphine, he was more or less relieved.

Lewis looks up from the contract, raising a brow, then stumbles up from the sofa when he sees Dick standing in the doorway. It’s not so odd, in itself, but Dick is in his skivvies and blinking into space, like he’s not quite sure why he’s even standing up.
“Hey, there,” Lewis says, reaching out and touching at a clammy shoulder with a wince. “You look peaky – you feel okay?”
“Nix is gone.”
“You found him, who else – ?” Lewis pauses, lifting slightly on his toes to better peer up at Dick’s face, into his half-open, glassy eyes, and falling back flat on his feet when he realizes Dick must still be asleep. He’s never seen him sleepwalk, or talk, but… it’s not necessarily impossible. “Hey, you need to go back to bed… I think.”
“Taylor sent Nix to Varsity.”
“What a bastard,” Lewis says, wry, as he gently pushes Dick up the stairs.
“The plane exploded,” Dick says, his voice tightening, lifting some from the bland drone.
