Summary
The German ambush had come a week after Bastogne, as sudden and brutal as a slap. And in that moment, in the chaos and the smoke and the screaming, Babe realised he hated them. Hated them in a way that went deeper than anger, a hatred that felt old, ancestral, like something inherited. He’d thought he'd reached his limit back in the woods, but this... this was different.
He’d thrown himself into the dirt, found cover in a shallow depression left by an old mortar shell. Around him, the field lit up with tracer fire and shouting. He stayed low, heart hammering. Somewhere out there, a voice cut through the noise; Luz, calling for a medic. That was normal. That was routine. He could picture Gene already running, boots pounding across frozen ground, kit slung tight, hands already reaching.
But the calls didn’t stop.
When Babe finally dared to lift his head, he saw Luz, still lying in the open, hands clutching at his leg, blood dark in the snow. No sign of Eugene.

Summary
Lamb's heart sank. "You know who I am, Cartwright. River," he tried, not bothering to hide his desperation now. "Look at me. You know me." Nothing; only a vague sense of terror and a distorted reflection of Lamb in too-wide pupils. "Fucking hell, what did they do to you?"
when river gets taken and tortured, lamb takes it upon himself to pick up the pieces.

Summary
Eugene thought he might would like jumping if it was under different circumstances. Almost enjoyed the way his breath got caught in his throat as soon as he was out of the plane. The pleasant weather on his face. How the adrenaline pumped through his entire body. The way he felt almost weightless. Just how much of the world he could see all at one time.
However none of that mattered over the way his heart pounded with dread and fear. Nothing could possibly drown out how sick he felt at all the things that could go wrong that kept running through his mind in endless wave after wave. Anyone could get tangled in their shoot on the way down. Enemy planes could roar overhead and open fire on them, while they were in the air. Someone could break their jaw on equipment not properly tied down on themselves. Far too easy to break a leg or an ankle upon landing.
OR: Eugene gets injured in the jump into Holland and tries to keep his wound to himself. New replacement Babe is having none of that.

Summary
Dr. Roe is… gorgeous. Like, jaw-droppingly, heart-stoppingly beautiful. He’s young, no more than 30 at the absolute oldest. His hair is so black that it shines blue when it catches the light and it’s just a little tousled like he’s been running his hands through it. At first glance it seems like his eyes are dark brown, but when Babe looks closer he realizes that they are actually impossibly dark blue, like the sea just before a storm.
It is immediately clear to him that he is going to make an absolute and complete ass out of himself in front of this doctor.
Babe has a kid and Eugene Roe is their sometimes-pediatrician.
