Doubt crashed over Pietro again like a tidal wave, urging him to hang up. It wasn’t too late. He could put down the phone and pretend like nothing ever happened, and boy- was he good at pretending.
All he had to do was put the phone down...

I don’t deserve you, Erik wants to tell the small child in front of him. He looks at the thin tuft of auburn hair on his head, the stained tears that coat his cheeks. You are perfect and good and I don’t deserve a blessing like you.
But he doesn't. He forces the thoughts away, shoves them in the corners of his mind, before reluctantly taking Pietro into his arms.

“You want to split up?” Erik asks slowly, brows furrowed as he turns to Peter. “Why?”
Peter shrugs as if it was just a mere suggestion. As if he hadn’t been thinking of the idea for weeks. As if Erik’s words the night before hadn’t been the flame to the initial spark. “It might be easier. I mean, we wouldn’t have to share food, and I’m sure you would be better off—”
“Is that what this is about?” Erik asks incredulously. “You are concerned about food?”
“Forget I said anything,” Peter says with another shrug. He begins walking again all for Erik to interrupt him with an outstretched arm.
“You are all I have, Pietro.”
