Summary
“The Heavens know all of your ugliness,” Ajax’s mother whispers. “And loves you despite.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel loved?” He replies, trying to look elsewhere other than having eye contact with his mother. “I am still a monster and the archons are still gods.”
“Listen to me, son,” Her reassuring smile never left her face. “The gods gave you their blessings,” she reaches out to his glowing vision. “And I know, someone out there would willingly accept you the same way gods gave you their favor.”
Before Ajax answers, the silence was immediately cut off by the sound of marching soldiers, on their way to steal him from his mother’s embrace.
“I did not want to be a monster.” He wanted to remain as his parents’ son. He wanted to be accepted by them and no one else.
“You aren’t, Ajax.”
“I am.”
