Julie woke up with a groan, to the type of headache that felt like someone lightly tapping on the inside of her skull with a spoon. Her body felt stiff as a board, as if she had passed out in her bed last night after running a marathon, and then perhaps gotten beat up for good measure. She blinked her eyes open, then immediately squeezed them shut, wincing. It had to be at least 8 am, because the sunlight was already bright enough to blind her on impact.
Strange. From the window of her room, it shouldn’t have been possible to have the sun in her eyes until at least mid-afternoon.
For a moment, she considered the question, but then her head throbbed again, so she dropped it in favor of rolling to the side to bury her face in the pillow.
Unfortunately, she was restrained by the arm around her waist.
