Regulus Black has always been this way. Disgustingly desperate for any warmth offered yet so afraid to be burned he intends to hide within his foggy apathy until he dies - and hopefully that is soon. He’s learned it’s best to keep quiet, take what’s offered but never ask, micro dose on pain to keep the fog from choking him, and punish himself for breaking if he ever dares even think of begging like a child for help. But he’s not suicidal, he’s too much of a coward for that.
Remus Lupin is an absolute dope with no idea of a direction in life, just endless resentment bitter in the back of his throat. In a world desperate to make him squirm where he stands, there’s not much to even think anymore. All he really knows nowadays is that he’s fallen for regulus black, and regulus black is in desperate need of any help he can get. Remus doesn’t exactly think of himself as qualified for this mission, but who else but him is there to take it on?
