Summary
“That’s kind of depressing,” Blonde Blazer murmurs, shuffling a stack of papers.
“You learn to deal,” says Robin. She leans towards Blazer, tone conspiratorial. “One time, a villain said I was ‘the Mecha Man version of Scrappy-Doo?’ That was my actual low point.”
—
It was searingly obvious that Dad would have preferred another strapping young boy, Bobby’s stock, but giving fate the finger was an old family tradition by that point.

Summary
Beacon was supposed to be something new. Something wonderful and curious, a place she could learn to be her own person—no longer under the thumb of her father and away from the untold amount of Atlesian political consequences. She didn’t have to fear for her siblings at Beacon, didn’t have to fear for those whose strings sought her out in a frenzy—didn’t have to fear for potential bonded entwining their souls with hers.
Or; Weiss knew she wasn't good at things like this.

Summary
Ruby can tell Yang she's angry at dad, and at Uncle Qrow, for hiding the truth about Summer for twelve years. But they both listen to the songs she writes, so she learns to obfuscate its depth. To couch it in layers of metaphor. To sing it from such a distance that she hardly feels it, and pour the truth into her guitar.
She gets so good at it, she can scream her throat raw at the woman she misses and hates and is to thousands of people, and none of them—not even Yang—will ever hear her.
