Summary
Shannon's birthday is on her headstone, and Eddie and Chris are gone—still gone, gone right now, or maybe just… gone. Which is fine.
No one promised Buck anything—which is, unfortunately, becoming the theme of his entire fucking life, and—
What’s not fine is that it’s Shannon’s birthday, and he can’t just… do nothing, and Buck’s always liked sunflowers—he likes them for their heliotropism, the way that younger flowers follow the path of the sun, day in and day out, turning toward the warmest, brightest part of the world. Dedicated. Undeniably alive. Only ever trying to grow.
He wonders if Shannon liked sunflowers. He wonders if she even liked celebrating her birthday.
Buck’s been wondering a lot, lately, about Shannon—all the things they have in common.
Then, he gets hit by a car.
—
Or: Eddie moves to El Paso, and Buck gets a hobby. Shannon does not haunt the narrative so much as she violently possesses it.

Summary
Eddie watches him for a moment longer before reaching for something next to him on the bathtub, and Buck watches him, but he lets his vision blur, so he’s not actually watching him.
He only finally blinks and focuses on Eddie when Eddie says his name. "Are you up for socks right now?" Eddie asks, holding up two mismatched soft-looking socks, and those are the socks that they never found the missing match for, but Eddie had insisted on keeping them for some inexplicable reason.
And Buck loves him.
He loves Eddie. For keeping the socks and for getting the socks in the fucking first place, for asking Buck without a hint of annoyance.

Summary
“Oh, you’re up. I hope I didn’t wake you.” Eddie moved one side of his headphones off of his ear, he was looking down at Buck, a soft smile plastered on his face.
Buck, still half asleep, mumbled, “No, you didn’t.”
“Good. If you want, I can get off and we can do something.” Eddie could hear his friends making jokes about how Eddie was whipped, but he ignored them.
“No, you’re okay. I can entertain myself.” Buck pulled his phone out and opened Google.
“Okay. If you want to do something later, just let me know.” It was more of a statement than a question. Buck nodded.
