After a retrieval job goes sideways, Rei and Akai are forced to call in a little backup. Very little. Like, three and a half feet.

Summary
As if for the first time, Rei looked around at the family photos, the gleaming kitchen, the colorful dishtowels in easy grabbing range in case Akai needed swatting. The calendar on the wall was covered in little notations: mediocre, forgettable things, like briefings and dentist appointments—and unforgettable things, like Hiro’s birthday, the first year he’d been able to write it in. And at the end of the month, parents’ weekend at Shinichi’s college.
Sometimes Rei looked around and had to shake himself, almost didn’t know whose life this was. He’d always figured the only thing waiting for him was a body bag. But the Organization was gone. His deep cover assignment was over. And he was sitting here with Akai Shuichi’s head in his lap, not even wrestling with the temptation to strangle him. Or no more than usual, anyway.

A glimpse of the future for Rei, Akai, and Shinichi's lives after the fall of the Organization. Moving forward, but forever a family. Mission 110.

Summary
“Shinichi had a bit of an unexpected reaction to the latest antidote…” Dr. Araide was saying.
“Cut the platitudes. Just put Shinichi on the phone,” Rei snapped. And then froze as he heard, unmistakably, the sound of a baby gurgling.
He could feel Araide wincing. “Maybe I’d better send a photo.”

After a mistake with the APTX antidote, Shinichi gets stuck as a seven-month-old infant. Rei and Akai, unwisely, decide they can handle that. Mission 110 spinoff.

Summary
“He’s not really gone. Right?”
There was this vicious, ragged thing inside of Rei, something he was barely holding down. Maybe it was his heart, clawing to get out. He raked a hand through his messy hair.
“People die, Shinichi. And when they do, they don't come back.”
*
An old enemy of Akai's resurfaces. Akai makes a bad mistake. In the aftermath, Shinichi tries to fix things, and Rei tries to decide what he wants - and what he's willing to risk for it.

"When they first met, Akai never would have imagined Rei could make an expression like that: soft and fond and completely in love, his whole world spinning around a boy in turquoise rainboots."
Little moments from Rei, Akai, and Shinichi's next year as a family, as Rei grapples with the idea that not all perfect things fall apart.

Summary
A series centered on Shinichi (Conan), Rei, and Akai, becoming a family of convenience for the sake of their cover and then becoming something a lot more irreplaceable than that. Akai x Rei slow burn, but mostly just family vibes.
Note: I use Shinichi's real name in this story, but he's still in Conan's body. Not a future, post-transformation fic.
