Summary
Carl’s first impression of Akram is not his face or even his voice. It’s his solid weight settled on Carl’s belly, legs splayed wide, slacks riding up just slightly as Akram saves Carl from his pitiful attempt to bench press. Carl is secretly grateful to have a legitimate reason to be out of breath, not just the exquisite man perched sinfully on his lap. All in all, it’s an incredibly distracting way to meet his new assistant.

Steve wakes up feeling so terrible that his first thought is that the serum somehow has worn off. His second thought, when he opens his eyes to see hard grey pavement, is that maybe he’s been sent back in time. He’d definitely spent a few nights next to trash cans in seedy alleys in the 30s, and stranger things than time travel had happened in his life so far. What was one more thing to add to the list?
When he manages to wrench his head downwards enough to look at himself, though, he realises pretty quickly that he’s an idiot.

It is an incredibly frustrating thing, to have the knowledge of how to do something, without the practical skill needed to do so.
Viktor had tried several iterations of a new brace for his leg with what he had at his disposal, but all of them lacked the strength for true support, let alone longevity. This one had outlasted all the others at least, but had given out at what had to be the most inconvenient moment possible.
At least it is still mostly holding his weight, and he takes care to shift his cane tight to his hip to provide as much help as possible after he feels the give and bend of one of the bars. “Shit.”
Or: Viktor accidentally falls into a partnership with a blacksmith, after his leg brace breaks in the middle of the city.

Summary

Seeing his old friend awakens memories, both good and bad, which he'd thought long buried. As the two reconnect, spending time together on the farm with Cullen’s many dogs, they begin to realize they may have more to offer one another than simply reminiscing about a shared past.

So each day he does his job and he laughs and he jokes and he pretends he’s the care-free goofball he’s always been. And each day he packs away his bruises and his worries, takes them home to his empty loft with its quiet rooms, and licks his wounds in silence.
