Summary
James Potter has loved Lily Evans for years. Having carried a torch for her for an entire decade, James finally gathers the courage to confess his love to her on New Years’ Eve — only to be met with heartbreak and the gentlest rejection one could ever hope to receive. He spends the rest of his night drinking his sorrows away, pleasantly surprised when he finds Regulus Black at the bar, seemingly drunk out of his mind.
Regulus Black finds himself dragged along by his brother to a party he never wanted to attend on the grounds that no one should spend New Years’ Eve cooped up all by their lonesome. The latter hours of the evening find him indulging in the free alcohol, losing himself to promises of a new and better year ahead.
With both of them stumbling into the right place and the right time, through a drunken haze brought about by loneliness and grief, James and Regulus enter into an Unbreakable Vow that will remain binding until their deaths: if they don’t find anyone else to date — someone they truly believe they have a real connection with — in two months, they would have to get married to each other.
