“Let’s get going then.”
Before Reo could pick up Nagi’s bag, the other slung it across his back and headed for the door. Reo’s jaw dropped.
“Nagi?” He stopped, looking back at the violette. “You don’t want to be carried?”
To his surprise, Nagi shook his head. “Not today.”
Reo was so stunned he barely remembered to lock the door and follow after him until Nagi was already halfway to the car.

Something was off. No one knocked on the Curtis door. The neighborhood knew they left it unlocked, and everyone they knew just walked in like they owned the place. Hell, even people they didn't know walked in like they owned the place. The only people who knocked at their door were social workers and cops. That uncomfortable feeling that Darry had shoved deep down this morning reared its ugly head. Something was really, really off. He peeked through the curtains; on the porch stood two police officers, hats in their hands, and suddenly Darry was thrown back to that dreaded January afternoon when two cops showed up at their door, hats in hand.
