Barb Azure waited until the building was all clear of Peacekeepers except one or two lingering by the exits, and then came up to Lucy Gray, quiet-like.
“What happened?” she asked. “Are you okay?”
Lucy Gray’s fingers were shaking as she fumbled to pull her guitar strap over her shoulder. Billy Taupe had embroidered it with flowers himself. The roughly stitched daisies and columbine on it had never looked perfect, but she couldn’t bear to get rid of it, not even after the Games. She had always said it was perfectly moulded to her size, and she’d simply never be able to find anything else quite as custom.
“I’m okay. But- Barb Azure- Maude Ivory, don’t go in there!!” Lucy Gray started, but she was cut off by Maude Ivory’s scream.

When she told them she’d gotten knocked up by one of the Chance boys, it was just her and him and Clerk Carmine left at the house. Billy Taupe dead, Lucy Gray gone, and Barb Azure had fled north with her girl a couple of years ago. CC panicked, saying they had no idea how to raise a kid and how on earth were they gonna handle another mouth to feed and every other worry under the sun, but Maude Ivory had calmed him down, helped him to see the wonder and sweetness of the situation. A kid meant the Covey wouldn’t die with them. A kid meant that maybe, just maybe, their songs could live on.
Then she started getting sick.

“Shh,” she says soothingly, and I am quiet. How silly of me, how stupid. To act as though this is some great problem, when she’s been through this exact same thing dozens of times? How many District 4 Victors has Mags watched, carted off to some lab, screaming her name and desperate for home?
“Listen to me, Finnick,” she says. “Annie’s alive. She won. And she’s back. They’ll let us see her after she gets out of the hospital.”
“She was screaming,” I say hoarsely. “She called for me.”
She studies me with sad eyes and I wonder what she sees. Annie is the first tribute from District 4 that has won since me. The first Victor I’ve ever mentored.

"What?" I ask, looking from Plutarch to Haymitch. "Like, convince him that I don't l- that I hate him?"
Plutarch looks at Haymitch. Haymitch sighs.
"To convince him to see you as a threat. An enemy," he says.
An enemy. So this is how Peeta will see me now. Exactly what I saw him as in the beginning of our first Games. The irony is not lost on me. Of course, Snow knew it wouldn't be.
"I want to talk to her."
