“A huntress with a bell around her neck will starve.” The silver-haired man’s lips slide into a smirk as he surveys the board with interest, crimson eyes shining brightly under the flicker of a chandelier’s candlelight. “If you allow the queen her evening prowl, she will return more… enthusiastically.”
Caleb frowns as Sylus adjusts another piece, choking his intended move. “And if she doesn’t?”
Sylus laughs; a spoonful of mock, a dash of amusement. “Any mere man who hopes to contain a lioness in a cardboard box will surely be eaten by sunrise.”

The guilt of breaking something so precious to her — to both of them, would perhaps just wash away. But something he said before she turned to leave stopped her in her tracks.
“This is a lovely picture.”
