“Well…” Robby said, exhaling softly, “actually, you see that blonde nurse outside? That’s my girlfriend.”
Jack froze.
Ms. Campbell seemed as caught off guard as Jack himself, the smile on her face faltering as the words sank in.
It made sense. Of course it made sense.
Robby and Dana.

Robby's backpack slipped from his shoulder and he let it drop next to his feet. He couldn’t take his eyes off the river below. The Allegheny river flowed tirelessly, had been doing so for centuries, for longer than the United States had existed.
It would be easy to slip. The railing wasn’t even that high. He didn’t mean to imagine himself falling, but the image imposed itself on his mind. He saw his torso leaning against the metal. He saw himself slip forward. He saw his body slice through the air. He saw it land into the muddy waters. He saw it disappear below the surface.
He didn’t see it go up.

Who even covers their mark if it’s that prominent anyways? Jack's mom always said if your mark isn’t well hidden it’s a sign that your match loves you more. It was a dig at him, with his hidden script she’d hated so much.
It hurts Jack to see someone deny love in such a blatant way. What’s so good about you Michael Robinavitch that you don’t want to be matched?

Throwing his head back and laughing, Robby shifted closer, ignoring Jack’s stiff body langauge, to wrap his arms around him. He pressed a kiss to Jack’s jaw. “I’ll miss you,” he mumbled, pressing another kiss to his cheek. “So much. I’ll pine for you. I’ll cry myself to sleep every night, hugging your pillow.”
A pause, then Jack grumbled, “That’s a start.”
