Her head jerked up, eyes narrowing, only to be met with a pair of the most startling sea green eyes she’d ever seen. The nose between them looked like it had been carved from marble, the lips beneath that were perfectly shaped, full. He was tanned, topped with a mop of wavy black hair, and he looked like a Greek god on earth; Annabeth would know. She was the resident expert on Greek gods. It only took a second for these thoughts to cross her mind before she realized he’d said something to her with a smile and she blinked, “What?”

Percy seemed to be just as intrigued by her as she was by him. A wide smile pulled at his lips, and Annabeth found herself unable to help but return it with a smaller one.
“See, monster,” Frederick said, reaching over to pinch her shoulder lightly. “Told you that you’d make some friends soon enough.”
Looking at Percy, Annabeth decided maybe this move wasn’t the worst thing in the world.

they’d spent the last five days in a tiny car road tripping from new york to california for new rome orientation and move in day. they’d stopped by all the classic tourist attractions anyone could think of. the country's biggest ball of yarn. the giant lobster. the hoover dam (again). they’d been saying “cheese” into cameras for the last seventy two hours and listening to annabeth’s audio books.
finally, they made it to their destination: the parking lot of new rome university.
