    Steve zoned out for the rest of the exchange between his father and the cops. He couldn’t bring himself to look anywhere expect his father’s shoes. After a few minutes of talking, his Dad stepped aside and gestured for Steve to go into the house. When he moved to walk forward, however, his Dad stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.
