Summary
Several decades after the events of Stranger Things, Mike Wheeler finds himself listening to the radio on the way home from his dead-end job when a song he hasn’t heard before comes on. He listens to the bridge of “Good Luck, Babe” and a lyric strikes him: “when you wake up next to him in the middle of the night, with your head in your hands / you’re nothing more than his wife.”
Will Byers, his childhood best friend that he has not seen since the closing of the Upside Down, chooses that time to walk back into his life. Will Mike let love slip through his fingers, a lifelong regret he didn’t even realize he harbored, or will he swallow his pride, take his internalized homophobia by the hand and tell it he doesn’t need it anymore, and finally get his happy ending?
Set in a somewhat modern day, Mike and Will must navigate late-in-life coming out, Mike’s loveless marriage, a somewhat amicable divorce, internalized homophobia, grief for what could have been, and accepting the love you didn’t think you deserved.
