Wednesday's awoken from her nightmare, however, by a soft voice and a softer hand on her shoulder, “Hey, it’s okay. I’m here, Wednesday. It’s me, Enid.” Wednesday’s eyes flitter over the girl's face: it’s unscathed. Thank god. She does the unthinkable (clearly still half asleep) and dives into Enid’s arms. Her nails dig into Enid’s cotton pajama top and her nose burrows into Enid's shoulder.

Their eyes meet, and Wednesday feels herself still for a moment. Enid’s eyes are watery and red-rimmed. She can see how tired the girl is, undoubtedly having her strength sapped from the stress of her first transformation and from fighting the Hyde.
Her eyes are like lakes, Wednesday thinks vaguely. While drowning is a decidedly unexciting way to die, I wouldn’t mind if it was them.
