    Summary

It would be a very gentlemanly thing to do, she thinks, to offer his jacket to a lady, but for the fact that it’s a muggy midsummer evening and no extra layer of warmth is needed.

He’s not being a gentleman, she decides, as she follows him down to the canal where he’s untying one of those funny little boats. He probably just doesn’t want to be seen taking a moonlit stroll with a whore.

After being rescued from the nightmare of the Menagerie, Inej gets to know her new companion over contract negotiation.

Lily Evans knew she wasn't very good at magical tag. In fact, she usually ended up in last place. But that didn't stop her from playing with enthusiasm. For that matter, hardly anything made her ever hold back. Not ex-boyfriends or bad Halloween costumes or competitive prefects. Not even her lousy sixth year.

(I am the one who says 'fuck you') - Benjamin Garcia, 'Ode to the Corpse Flower'.

Petunia drips magic the way she drips anger. Sparingly. Subtly. Nothing overt or obnoxious. Nothing that attracts the stares of other children or the suspicion of adults. Just things that help her. Her dolls line back up after the football Lily was kicking about ruins their perfect symmetry. Her bed makes itself while she brushes her teeth meticulously. Tea that is slightly too hot or too cold settles to the perfect temperature. Magic maintains the realm of order she has built around herself.

Modern Era AU: When Lily Evans seeks assistance from James Potter to avoid the attentions of a suitor who just won't take no for an answer, she accidentally lands them both on the front page of every gossip magazine in Britain. She should have thought about that before pretending to be the girlfriend of a famous athlete.

It is a cliché, but even this writer is prone to those at points: The first thing she notices about him is his smile—not that it’s lopsided and sweet and warm, even though it is all of those things, but that it annoys her.

    > And there it is; he likes her, likes her, and she knows there’s a second part to this conversation, knows that now she’s supposed to confess her feelings to him, but she’s forgotten how to do it. The view is too beautiful, his radiant smile and warm, brown eyes, his messy hair and the glint of his glasses in weak sunlight, the dimple in his cheek. How’s she meant to think with a view like that?
