“Who is it?” he asks.
Mydei gives him a blank look. “And why should I tell you?”
“Because you’re ill, and it’s due to your feelings for this person,” Phainon says. “I’d like a name so I can talk to them.”
Mydeimos is ill with the flower-vomiting disease. Phainon wouldn't be Phainon if he didn't involve himself in Mydei's business, of course.

If it had been under any other circumstances, Phainon would have courted him. He would have picked flowers for him, recited poetry for him, followed him around the marketplace for hours until he could find a piece of amber that was the exact shade of gold as his eyes. He would have commissioned the finest craftsman in Okhema for courting gifts: jewellery to adorn his ears and neck, or maybe a dagger befitting of his status as a warrior.
