Principal Nedzu stirs his tea, which Tenko has left untouched, and takes a sip in the other kid’s direction. “I think this situation could be beneficial to you both. This will be your duty for the month, Mr Midoriya. You’ll have to remind Mr Shigaraki to do his gardening, seeing as he has a habit of ignoring punishments unless physically coerced into staying put.”
The boy squeaks. He’s like a gangly green faun, the kind of stupid terrified NPC you’d meet in the tutorial and automatically hate. “Me? Sir, I, uhm, I don’t think I’m the best person to –”
“Nonsense,” says Nedzu pleasantly. “Mr Shigaraki, you’ll be weeding the herbs for the next four weeks. And if he doesn’t, Mr Midoriya, I’ll hold you personally responsible. I’m sure Mr Shigaraki will co-operate so you won’t have to be unnecessarily punished. Isn’t that right?”
“No,” says Tenko.
“Wonderful!” says Nedzu. “I look forward to seeing how you make the place grow."

Summary
A finger touches his stomach and traces up his chest. It stops to investigate a small rip under his right pec, pressing against Izuku’s bare skin. It leaves goosebumps. “Your little jumpsuit’s not very durable, is it, Deku? I like it.”
“Don’t.” Izuku tries to back away. He can’t breathe. Shigaraki toys with Izuku’s zipper. It moves slowly downwards. Izuku’s exposed collarbones prickle in the cold. He shivers but doesn’t dare try to cover himself up. “You’re not good,” Izuku whispers. “You’re awful. You’re insane.”
“Yes.” A bead of sweat drips between his pectorals and into his navel. Shigaraki follows it with his eyes. And then with a finger, dry and cool against Izuku’s itchy-hot skin. "I hate that your little friends keep interrupting us,” Shigaraki whispers into the corner of Izuku’s mouth. “Let’s try it this way, pretty rabbit. You come find me. Promise we’ll get a moment alone.”
(The first time Izuku sees Shigaraki Tomura he thinks nothing much.
They second time they meet, though, is the time Izuku really sees him. It happens in a crowded shopping complex and it starts with a hand around Izuku’s throat.)

Summary
This is the way the world works: the sun rises in the east. The strong come out on top. Bakugou Katsuki rockets through life like a comet and Midoriya Izuku stumbles after. If he believed in such things Katsuki would say it was written in the stars. That some god of war had looked at him and said this one. That he’d been passed along a line to get his blessings – genius, willpower, fearless ambition – and dropped off on earth.
Then, of course, there is the question of Deku. The spitfire runt. Deku, no matter what the world does to him, never stops hoping.
Until, of course, he eventually does.
(Katsuki broke him. Snapped him in half like a twig and now has to scramble to put Deku back together. “We can do this, Deku," he says slowly. "There are so many mysteries that never got put to bed. Criminals roaming around looking to hurt people and you and me, we can fix that.”
There’s a long pause. The comforter slips a little off Deku’s skinny shoulders and drowns him. “You mean like a team?”
In that split second, Katsuki makes a decision he’s never even considered. He swallows his pride. “Yeah, Deku. We’d be a team.”)

Summary
Izuku’s life doesn’t just veer off course - it detonates.
After the sludge villain incident, after Bakugou leaves him broken and bleeding in an alley.
Instead of a hero's rescue, he gets the Hero Killer.
Instead of safety, he gets dragged into the League of Villains and tied to a debt he never asked for and can’t refuse.
It should’ve been the end of everything he hoped for. It should’ve been the worst thing that ever happened to him.
And maybe, in some ways, it was.
But somewhere between becoming Stain’s personal informant and the League’s analyst, Izuku starts to understand something:
He isn’t nearly as powerless as he used to be.
