Surprisingly, writing about love and beauty and anguish is easy if he just reads a lot of sad romance novels or coming of age books and applies that knowledge to his writing. It’s a formula of love; pining + slight anguish = 90% of love songs and story plots Mingi’s ever heard or read. That makes sense to Mingi – formulas make sense to Mingi. They’re consistent, forever, and never fail him in a time of crisis.
Unfortunately for him, there is no formula for a way to deal with Choi Jongho.

Summer echoes in the other boy’s eyes and god San wishes he could whisk Wooyoung away from here. He wishes he could be selfish for once and abandon ship, take his love and just live out their lives together. They’d be far away from the violence, the stress, the heartache. San could finally stay in one spot and live his life by someone who taught him that living isn’t just floating along on the surface but setting your anchor down and experiencing.
If he did those things, he wouldn’t be the man Wooyoung fell in love with.

Jongho remembered when it was a glowing, ethereal place, before the War. His parents took him and San back when they were children to stare up at a broken man upon the cross and expect to bow down to him blindly. He always scoffed at it — the story of a great father abandoning his son in a time of dire need stabbed and buried in between his ribs like a reminder. The War closed it down quickly afterwards, and the children were made to imagine their own gods did not abandon them.
Jongho ducked underneath the board that barred the door from entry, sighing a little at the slight temperature drop as he entered the church. His nose scrunched up as the familiar smell of sulfur stung at his nostrils, but that was to be expected.
Summoning demons didn’t come without a few small sacrifices.
