“I won’t hurt you, Steve. It’s me, it’s Robin. You’re safe now, okay? You’re safe. I promise. I’m here. Robin’s here.”
“Rob?” Steve whispers weakly, his voice scratchy.
“Yeah, it’s me, it’s me. You’re safe now.” I move forward slowly, not wanting to scare him. He flinches at my touch but lets me pull him into a gentle hug, and as soon as I do, he breaks. He slumps forward into me, sobs escaping from his mouth. He shakes in my arms, falling apart right in front of me.

Steve Harrington has pretended to be fine for too long. He’s kept certain things a secret that he shouldn’t have. He’s vulnerable and hurt and doesn’t want to let anyone in, but he doesn’t have a choice. Maybe, for once, he has to let someone help him. It’s not like his helpers are okay either – Dustin is paranoid and constantly trying to make everything “fine”, Robin is spiralling, her thoughts consuming her, and she’s struggling to keep secrets from the one person she never used to lie to. But they both want to help. Steve just has to learn how to let them.
