Summary
Because of my evil life, I no longer enjoy the love and honour of others; and I have no ordinary human hopes or expectations.
The shadow of death is over me now, and it has softened my spirit.
I shall not describe the later years of my life, which were full of misery and unforgivable crime, but you must know I suffered from a sudden tendency to evil intentions.
But the only time I killed a man was to save an innocent life.
I’m ashamed to say, I have a weak spot for the innocent, as they are so opposite to me.
You must understand then, when Will died, I really didn’t know what to do with myself, for I had failed.
