Summary
Small towns can be quite judgemental, holding your tongue was a skill that came naturally to those with secrets to hide.
Hiding from others made a lonely existence, and that, both Ifa and Ororon knew. They weren't close, not as close as they could be, or as they wanted to be, but the few fleeting moments they shared fueled great care for one another.
Helping others comes way more naturally for Ifa than it does to Ororon, but Ororon is determined to repay his favors, one way or another. He can only hope Ifa doesn't find out about his blood-sucking nature in the process.

Kaveh watched the up-and-down of Alhaitham's larynx as he swallowed, a flash of uncertainty in his sea-green eyes. Kaveh licked his lips. He stepped forward. Alhaitham stepped back. That retreat thrilled Kaveh, so he pushed forward until Alhaitham hit, with a slight stumble, a wall behind him—one of those damnable invisible walls in the desert.
Kaveh's eyes travelled slowly down, following the lines of his cape to his arm, where his gaze stopped, as if transfixed. "That scar," he said. "It's still there?"
"... Yes," Alhaitham said.
Kaveh's rutting. Alhaitham offers to help.
