She kissed their mouths, endured their endless discussions, played the perfect role. "Don't worry," they said with a laugh, their smiles shallow. "You’ll find someone, Your Majesty. You deserve it."
But Aglaea did not deserve it. Not from any of them.
She had given up. She had thrown in her lot with the clouds, allowing herself to drift into fantasies—dreams of a love untouched by the conventions of her world. I could see it on your face, you know," Boothill taunted, his voice dripping with mischief as he met Sunday's gaze with his own intense stare. “It’s pretty cute, if you could only see it for yourself.” The stake aimed at his heart was nothing more than a futile gesture, a ineffective attempt to assert control over something far beyond Sunday’s comprehension.
“However, I could, and I definitely would,” Sunday replied, his voice laced with a hint of defiance that only served to amuse Boothill further. He was just basically giving what the vampire wanted.
Boothill replied back, “I’d like to believe your words, just like your servants and little worshippers… but I really doubt that, darlin’. You enjoy my presence too much, you might just turn in your body for good ‘ol me.”
