The year they finally beat Exton and MLC and everyone else, and took King’s Row all the way to CIAC open division championships. Nicholas stares down at the lines of the piste under his feet.

He steals his mom’s magazines sometimes, flipping through them and staring longingly at the pictures of makeup and dresses. He’s not quite sure what he’s longing for exactly, but he knows that it’s something he shouldn’t be doing, so he hides the magazines under his mattress and feels guilty when his mom asks him where they went. They begin to pile up, the pages well worn and spines coming apart.
He looks at himself in the mirror and imagines what he would look like in heels and a skirt, taking his headband off and brushing his hair so it falls just below his chin. He squeezes his waist, turning and feeling like there’s something slightly off.
