"There you are," Zoey's smile glows even in the dim. "We thought you’d disappeared again."
Mira follows, picking burrs from the hem of her wedding dress, "Rumi, you can’t just vanish into thin air. It confuses the newlyweds."
Rumi smiles, a soft ache lingers behind her ribs, that of an old friend.
"I figured you two might want a moment alone."
Zoey plops down beside her, head landing against Rumi’s shoulder, "We’ve had plenty of moments today. None of them included you properly."
Mira sits on Rumi’s other side, slipping her hand into hers, with an easy, "We missed you."
And Rumi wants to pull them into her arms. Wants to merge their skin, their bodies into hers and never be apart, never having to make a single hard choice again. She wants so many impossible things with the only two women she ever loved— But can never have. Not now.
Not after the wedding she helped plan.—
OR, Rumi spends Mira and Zoey’s perfect hillside wedding quietly breaking apart. She’s planned every detail, loved every moment— Just not in the way she wishes she could.
