Thank fuck he had blamed Eddie's spacey expression on having just woken up. Which, yeah, that might have been part of it alright.
Eddie shook his head to will it into functioning somewhat normally (well, normal by his very own standards, naturally). The effect remained unconvincing, but he got up, allowed himself the tiniest of sighs as he disentangled himself from the blanket Steve must have draped over him while he was asleep, and shuffled over to the bathroom."Basically the boys are both equally smitten and equally oblivious. Until they finally sort things out.
CN: Intrusive behaviour: Steve braids a strand of Eddie's hair while the latter is asleep. I imagine them having a dynamic where both try to mask acts of affection as jokes or pranks, and that has escalated over time with both of them being fine with it. While others (including me) would absolutely hate stuff like that, so yeah. Hope this note helps.

And Steve giggles. It is the most enticing sound Eddie has heard in his whole life. He feels the corners of his mouth drag closer to his ears than he would have thought possible. Oh, this is a night where impossible things happen, apparently.'
To have a different first meeting, I decided to send Steve off to Europe for a year, and had Eddie stay with his Ma a lot longer and only move in with Wayne (and back to Hawkins) when Steve was gone.
Steve is very much not King Steve here, but hey, he's just come back to his hometown after a year and is a bit insecure, alright?
I'd say the upside-down and all of that still exists, the boys just don't know about it yet. But of course Eddie's gonna live.
