Summary
Fortunately, her saviour rattles the treat bag, letting Uki run to her instead.
“Not a dog person, Spider-woman?” Amber prompts.
“I am.” Alysa frowns under her mask; she has saved both dogs and cats, thank you very much. “Just better with cats.”
“Cats are tricky,” Amber says as she raises an eyebrow. “Hard to please.”
“I like the challenge.” Alysa shrugs and presses her fingers against the gauze, trying not to let her thoughts drift to a certain woman clad in a tight, black leather suit.
or, Alysa returns as Oakland’s finest vigilante after two years of radio silence. But with the return of the friendly neighbourhood hero, also comes the return of some old friends—particularly one with a black mask and Cheshire grin.
She also has a new (and hot) neighbour, but that’s unrelated, probably.

post-beijing, anna can't stop thinking about sasha no matter how much it hurts.
---
Sasha’s face was a sight to behold. Anna had memorized it in the moment, but she kept going back to watch the clips over and over again to could pick the scab open, and so sees it in her dream in perfect clarity. That heavy black eye makeup, the scarlet lipstick smeared beneath her mouth. She looked like a monster, vampiric, cannibalistic, but god, so gorgeous that it hurt. She was burning with fury and violence, larger than life even in her worst moment, and it unsettled Anna how it made her burn too.
She wakes with her name on her lips and her face echoing on the back of her eyelids. She is hungry and underrested. Her body is strung out in anticipation of the burst of dopamine from running and training. I’m more hollow than Sasha is, she thinks, because at least Sasha has contempt to fill the void.

Summary
At some point during one of their hotel room chit-chat sessions, Alina had extended her finger and asked if they could pinky promise that they wouldn’t let the outside world get between them ever again, biting her lower lip and tugging at the corner of it. She looked like a thirteen year old boy working up the nerve to ask his crush to a school dance. It was sweet and mildly endearing, enough to pull a hearty laugh out of Evgenia, one that Alina echoed with a nervous, breathless chuckle.
Zhenya had carelessly hooked the offered finger. Added a small, sealing kiss because she was warm and happy and they’d just spent hours watching the men’s free skating together, belly-laughing while tearing the boys apart.
She’d meant nothing particular by it. She was just being pleasant. She was always pleasant. Surely, Alina wouldn’t think much of the significance or veracity of such a juvenile, meaningless thing. (Clearly, now, Evgenia knew she had. Clearly, Alina had stashed it somewhere else entirely.)

Summary
A silver coin glimmers in the moonlight as Raven tosses it up and down, staring into the well’s rainbow waters. Apple quivers, anticipating Raven’s wish — will she ask for another destiny? Apple doesn’t know if that would work, but she wouldn’t put it past Raven to try. Her hands curl into fists, perfectly manicured nails biting into the skin of her palms. Please, Raven, her mind begs. Please don’t make this even harder.
Raven stops tossing the coin. She pauses, still staring down, and Apple seems to have lost her ability to breathe. Raven does it for her, taking a shuddering breath that almost sounds like it hurts, pulling the coin close to her chest. “I wish…” she starts, and her voice is low, so quiet Apple has to really strain her ears in order to hear her. “I wish to know what happens if I don’t sign the Storybook of Legends.” She drops the coin in the well.

Summary
Maggie giggles, “I bet Sasha only keeps Marcy around for the answers. Sasha and Boonchuy seem to be closer than her anyway, they are like soulmates…”
Oh.
Marcy could feel the ugly green speaking inside her. It’s evil, the way it tells her that Maggie’s right, Marcy Wu had always been a tool and never a friend. But she never believes it anyway, because Sasha can’t possibly stick around for seven years just because Marcy’s “necessary” right? She’s been a good friend, and Anne would tell her if she did something wrong that angered Sasha. But what struck her most was what Maggie called her friends.
Soulmates.
—
Marcy feels like a spectator of Sasha and Anne's relationship.
