    “I know, okay? I know.” Mike ran a hand through his hair. “I’m just scared. I don’t want them to think of me like that.”
    Will wrinkled his nose. “If you have a problem with being ‘like that’, then you need to take a step back and evaluate the situation. Because I hate to break it to you, but we’re both ‘like that’ whether you like it or not.”
    Mike stared back unflinching. “That’s not what I meant. You think I have a problem with being queer? No. Of course not. Believe it or not, I love it. It means I get to have you.”
    The earnest look in Mike’s eyes was enough to melt Will. So he tried to smile and placed his hand on top of Mike’s. “So what     do you mean, then?"
    “I don’t want them to think of me differently. Like, I don’t want to be their gay friend. Mike, the queer. I just want to be Mike.”

    OR: Will's ready to come out to the Party, but Mike isn't quite there yet.

The face was obscured by shadows. He tried to get a glimpse but was met with a hand grasping onto his jaw so tightly he thought it would break. It was too fast for him to comprehend before he was being pulled forward.
