Summary
If someone had told Aaron Dingle 10 years ago that he would one day wake up married to a farmer, he would have given them a confused scowl and told them they were off their head.
And if that someone had also told him that said farmer would be the man he was already married to, he would have laughed right in their face. Then he would have told Robert the second he got back to the Mill and the two of them would have laughed even harder together, cackling at the very idea until their sides hurt.
As it turns out, the universe must be the one with the real sense of humour, because now, at an unreasonably early time in the morning, Aaron groans when the shrill sound of Robert’s alarm pulls him from his slumber.

“Oh my god.” Mack brings a hand to his chest, eyes wide. “You’re pregnant.”
Matty bursts out laughing. Aaron takes a deep breath and pinches the bridge of his nose, hearing Robert snort beside him.
“Close,” he says, resting a hand on Aaron’s thigh. “We’re engaged, actually.”
Mack and Matty both gape at them for a moment, before simultaneously dropping to sit on the ground opposite them and immediately talking over each other.

“What the hell are you doing?”
Robert winces and sucks the tip of one of his fingers in his mouth.
“Stabbed myself with the needle.”
Sure enough, he’s holding a needle and thread. Aaron lets out an amused, slightly baffled huff and sits opposite him on the rug.
“Gonna ask again, what’re you doing? Since when do you sew?”
“I’m not, really,” Robert says, finally removing the finger from between his lips. He carefully picks up a small straw hat that was resting on the floor next to him. “Just trying to make Seb’s Easter bonnet, ‘pparently he needs one for this party Charles is throwing the kids at the church tomorrow. Best bonnet wins an Easter egg.”

As they step into the Mill’s living room, Robert’s eyes narrow at the kitchen, where the lights are switched on. There are two unwashed mugs on the counter, plus a couple of takeaway cartons and the smell of Chinese food in the air. He hears Aaron stumble and swear under his breath, and turns to see he’d tripped over a pair of heeled shoes that were lying on the rug.
“What the hell is – ”
Their heads snap up to the ceiling at the sound of footsteps above them, and Aaron immediately grasps Seb’s hand to pull him closer. Just as Robert’s about to grab his phone and call the police, a figure appears on the staircase and he lets out a groan.
It’s just his bloody mother in-law.
