Summary
As she’s silently stewing, Kie feels JJ lift her hand a bit, and she snaps her eyes over to see a careful smirk playing at his lips, blue eyes glittering up at her under the flickery light of the bathroom.
“So was this your way of calling him a creep tonight?”
Kie’s grimace instantly weaves itself into a wide smile, and she quips back, “I think I was aiming for something a bit less kind than that, but . . . yeah, pretty much.”Pushed to her breaking point by the stifling expectations of her parents and the incendiary harassments of one Rafe Cameron, Kie finds herself once again stumbling between two worlds. Luckily, through the unexpected warmth of a very specific pair of ocean blue eyes and the even more unexpected coldness of some rubbing alcohol, she's able to find her footing.

Kie chews on her lip as she realizes that she probably should’ve thought of some actual questions to ask before suggesting this stupid game. She ponders the best way to ease into a conversation about feelings with JJ, pretty quickly decides that there isn’t one, and ultimately settles on something bold yet cliche.
“What was your first time like?”After being not so subtly pushed together by Sarah, Kie and JJ play their own, modified version of truth or dare, during which Kie not so subtly attempts to sort out her newly realized feelings for her best friend.

Jean squeezes once, and then lifts Jeremy’s wrists up, up, until he’s holding them above Jeremy’s head. Jeremy’s breath hitches.
Jean must hear it, because his gaze snaps back to Jeremy’s face from where he’d been watching their hands. Jeremy flushes immediately, flexing and unflexing his fingers nervously.
“You like this,” Jean repeats, but this time, it’s not a question.

Jean’s chest tightens further. “Jeremy,” he says, as calmly as he can manage. “Where are you?”
He does not ask if Jeremy’s okay. He does not ask what happened. Both questions are irrelevant in the moment. If the answer to the first is yes, Jeremy would not have texted him that phrase. And if the answer to the second is given to him now, Jean would only be wasting time.
Time he could be using to make sure Jeremy is safe.
