Summary
“What?” he asked tentatively.
Amy shrugged, rubbing the back of her neck. “Dad always said that love doesn’t last long. That, after a while, it’s just a habit of having the other person close, but the spark will always go away. It’s inevitable.”
Eli glanced at his parents again. Dad was back to explaining; Tata’s temple rested on Dad’s shoulder as he watched him point around the map. His fingers traced along Dad’s bicep. Talk about habits.
Eli squirmed in his seat and fought the urge to cough.
Maybe, your Dad never really loved your Mom seemed like a horrible thing to say.
Eli winced. “I… don’t know about that,” he mumbled in the end.
Amy sighed. “Of course, you don’t.”

Summary
Derek barked out a laugh. “If anyone’s the Jiminy Cricket of the pack, it’s Scott. Stiles… if the pack’s in danger, I don’t think there’s any limits to what he would do.” There was no doubt in Derek’s mind that there was a capacity in Stiles for dark acts in the name of saving his loved ones. A cruelty and mercilessness that Scott could never dream of having.

Stiles has been rejected so many times that it doesn't really surprise him when it happens again. Hurts, yeah, because dammit — he'd thought Derek was the one. Heartbreak sucks, and he's not so sure he's going to get over it this time.
