This rewrite/addition aims to better establish Freddie’s motivation in Talking Chess and provide Florence with greater emotional distance from Anatoly (and more autonomy!!) in order to heighten the impact of I Knew Him So Well. Although... this also could just be a convoluted attempt at enhancing the Freddie/Anatoly homoerotic undertones. I'm not a big writer, but this was bouncing around my head for long enough that I had to share.
