Summary
He was not her savior, her protector, her hero, no more than she was his. She was the agent of his metamorphosis, as he was hers: with him she forgot her fear of failure; with her he remembered the oath behind his sword. They rebuilt each other, and Hyrule was rebuilt in the image of their becoming. He would never let her go again: not for fear of the fall, but fear of the empty hand.
Twice now, Link and Zelda have waded the vast river of time to come to the other’s aid. Twice now, they have shaped the world out of reverence for the other. Now, after Hyrule finally enters its era of peace, the two approach the other on timid footing, having outgrown the roles of savior and saved, protector and protected: what role do the heroes play now that the evil is slain by their own hand?
Or, the resolution of a relationship many years in the making.
