Lena hums. “And here I thought you were supposed to be saving me, tonight.”
Kara blinks up from the food to Lena’s chest—oops—before meeting Lena’s eyes. “Save you?” she says. “Haha. What. Like, uh, like Supergirl? Or whatever?”
“No, silly,” Lena says, smiling so fondly at her that it makes Kara a little lightheaded. “As my bodyguard, of course.”
“Oh right! That’s me!” Kara grins, puffing out her chest and clicking her heels and keeping her eyeline firmly above Lena’s shoulders. “At your service, ma’am. Ready to guard your—um.” She halts. “Your… body,” she finishes, flinching.

“Why are you stalking Cressida Cowper?” Penelope says.
Eloise cannot tell if her best friend is disgusted by it—because she doesn’t want Eloise to even care about their old school bully, although she was always more of Penelope’s bully—or if she is secretly delighted. “I ran into her at the coffeeshop the other day. She said, get this? She said we should catch up. Like we’re old friends.”
“God, can you imagine catching up with Cressida Cowper?” Penelope shakes her head. “What would she tell you about?”
“I don’t even know what she does,” Eloise admits, swiping through Cressida’s Instagram.
Her Instagram doesn’t give a lot of information if she’s being honest. Or it doesn’t give any good information.
There’s Cressida on a beach in Italy, posing with her glossy, perfect hair down (and Eloise doesn’t remember her hair being down in high school; she remembers it being up in elaborate twists or a strangely misshapen bun). She has sunglasses on, and she poses in a way that shows off just how attractive she is. Like she’s daring everyone to look at her and see anything else.
