Summary
“No offense,” says Eddie, clicking his tongue. “But I really hoped I’d never have to see you again.”
“Likewise, Eddie,” says Frank. “I know you never liked therapy. But your captain has mandated it for all of the 118, and you’re no exception. Especially you. Buck was your partner, your—”
“Buck is my partner,” Eddie cuts him short. “His death could never change that.”
He states it as fact. The sun rises every morning and sets every night. There are eight stars in the Big Dipper. Evan Buckley is dead.

Summary
“Why the fuck are you even in this loop? This day isn’t about you.”
“Well, I die,” Eddie comments idly, not sounding as offended as he maybe should be. “Haven’t you heard? I’m always dying.”
“That’s not funny.”
Eddie shrugs, not really agreeing or disagreeing. It’s a few seconds before he says, eyes still closed, “Maybe I’m here so you’re not alone.”

Summary
“And this is the part where you lean in and kiss her,” Buck said after clearing his throat, giving Eddie a grin that he hoped hid his own ridiculous disappointment of not being the her in question. You’d think he’d have learned his lesson about not falling for straight guys after his third heartbreak over the same damn thing but nope, he was still the hopeless idiot that he’d been since the day he was born.
Eddie frowned, leaning back in his own seat. “Her?”
“I couldn’t help but notice how hesitant you’ve been about getting back onto the dating scene despite saying that you’re ready,” Buck said, going for nonchalant and likely missing it by the mile. “I figured a little boost in confidence and a crash course in how to pull off a perfect first date wouldn’t hurt.”
Or, the one in which Buck assumes Eddie sucks at dating and decides to do something about it

Summary
Buck doesn’t think that if he were to say, “I’m in a bad place”, that anyone would turn him away. Really, he doesn’t. The 118 has too many good, kind people for that.
But every time he wants to open his mouth, to say something, to reach out to Eddie or Bobby or Hen or Chim, he hears Eddie yelling, “you’re exhausting.”
—you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting—
So each day he does his job and he laughs and he jokes and he pretends he’s the care-free goofball he’s always been. And each day he packs away his bruises and his worries, takes them home to his empty loft with its quiet rooms, and licks his wounds in silence.

Summary
Eddie clenches his jaw. When he looks at Buck again, his eyes are lit up with anger.
“Butt out, Buck. You're not his dad."
“You don't get to say that,” Buck replies harshly. “You don't get to come to me and tell me you put me in your will, and that you did it because you knew I'd fight your parents for Chris, and then get mad that I want to fight your parents for Chris.” Buck knows how to get angry too. Buck can fight too.
They can't both be the good cop.
