Mai scowls, somehow having already reverted back to her annoying normal. She skewers a strawberry off her parfait with a long dessert fork. That motion is somehow both attractively elegant and also obnoxious in the way that only Zenin Mai could be.

Summary
There was absolutely nothing in this world that meant more to Nobara than volleyball. So why was she running over to Maki who was lying limp on the court instead of saving the ball? In the back of her mind, she vaguely registered that she could have easily reached it if she had tried to. But she could barely even think about the ball.
All she could feel was fear. Not the dull ache in her muscles that came from already playing a full game and another nearly three sets. Not the shouts of her teammates. Not even the mildly shocked stares that came from the other team.
The fear that came from hearing the echoing thud of Maki’s body hitting the court over the cheers of the crowd. The fear that came from the deafening silence when Maki didn’t get up. The fear that came from finally reaching her and seeing the blood that covered the ground.
The fear that came from the fact that the score was tied 23-23 in the third set and she had, without a second thought, willingly given up a point to run to a girl.Bookmarked by stanstubs
