    There are certain rules to being a vampire. Rules about blood, loyalty, names, death, and the creatures on the other side of an ancient feud.

    Over the course of centuries, those rules are followed, broken, misunderstood, and occasionally ignored altogether by a collection of people who probably should never have met. Some are bound by blood, some by love, some by pure circumstance, and others who have the profound misfortune of being in the wrong room at the wrong time.

    People come and go. Names change. The dead leave things behind. The living make a mess of them.
