Summary
Eddie holds his face and stares at Buck like he's the shape of love—and Maddie knows, she knows his devotion for her brother will outlive their physical bodies and bury them in sacristy when the day arrives, but that day is not today. Today Buck and Eddie live.
And she does, too. Maddie Han lives.
Or, where Buck insists on sight-seeing an apartment on Hollywood Boulevard and it all comes crashing down—it must be a sign.

Summary
"You look exactly the same," Eddie says with tears in his eyes. "How is that even possible?"
"I don't know," Buck says, his thumb swiping across Eddie's knuckles. "I don't understand it."
He may be the same, but looking at Eddie, Buck can see the years on him. His hair is a bit different, the creases by the corners of his eyes just a bit deeper. There's a new scar on his right hand that Buck hasn't seen before. He'd know these hands blind, but it takes him a moment to notice it still. His fingers brush over it once, and then again before he actually looks down and sees the thin golden band wrapped around Eddie's ring finger. Then he just—stares at it, stupidly, for a second. Before Eddie pulls his hands back, and leaves Buck's hanging empty in the space between them.
"You're married," he says.

Summary
His mind is already flashing with a thousand possibilities; snapshots of every work-related accident he’s encountered in his seven years on the job, the all-too-familiar of image of Eddie’s body unnaturally lifeless in the hospital bed, breathless in a way that never fails to make Buck want to claw out his own lungs and transplant them into Eddie’s chest. Already scrambling for his keys, heart alight in terror, he frantically chokes out, “What happened? Is he okay?”
There’s a pause on the other end of the line. “Actually,” a rustle of files, “We were calling about a girl by the name of June Foster."
Buck’s mind blanks.
“We believe her to be your daughter.”
or, the story of how buck discovers he has a six-year-old daughter, spirals a bit, becomes an astronaut in training, kisses the love of his life, makes lasagna, and learns that his heart might just be the perfect place to build a home, all in seven days.

Summary
He’s still greedy, even now. Still can’t figure out how to loosen his grip on it just a little, knuckles white with how hard he’s holding on, but he’s trying so hard to give Eddie space and time because he asked for it, because when they got together, Eddie couldn’t seem to stop looking at him when he asked Buck to be patient with him, couldn’t hide the nerves from his voice, the vulnerability of his open chest, the honesty in his fingers against Buck’s wrist where he’d held on so gently as if he was afraid to come any closer. So Buck is trying, to just sink into having it rather than wanting more, to let it be enough rather than him being too much, and he’s been doing good, mostly. He’s been doing good.
-
Or asking for what you want is asking too much of Buck, except it isn’t really. Not when it’s Eddie.

Summary
Buck hasn't slept in days.
When he thinks about it, he probably hasn't really slept in weeks. It's fine, though. He's fine.
***
It's been months since Buck and Maddie were kidnapped, so he should be better, right? It doesn't help that Eddie is still in Texas, and seems to be building a life without him.
