Virgil knows that Deceit would never in reality join up with the Light Sides for someone else's gain. He knows that Deceit will never change his ways—he's been manipulative and dark for all the time he's known him. And sure, that might be just his paranoid nature talking, and it would be unfair to judge Deceit's past without Virgil judging his own. Except for one small thing that makes it very clear to him that all of this 'getting accepted by the Light Sides' stuff was simply a scheme...
