“I see no pity sweets,” Kuroo observed with a crooked smile and raised eyebrows, “I told you the fake girlfriend would work.”
Kenma nodded his concession. “It did work. Only, instead of an imaginary Karasuno girl, they think we’re dating.” He said it as casually as if he were just telling Kuroo what level he was on.
“Huh?” Kuroo was sure he hadn’t heard him correctly.
Kenma looked at Kuroo as if he couldn’t imagine what part of it Kuroo didn’t get. “Us. They think we’re dating.”
“Oh.” So Kuroo hadn’t imagined that. Hadn’t, with sheer force of delusional will, heard what he wanted to hear.
Kenma seemed to catch on that Kuroo was not feeling as normal about this as he was. “Sorry. When I said I was in a relationship, they just assumed it was with you and I didn’t correct them. It was easier than making someone up.”
“Yeah. That makes sense,” Kuroo replied then took a big gulp of his water. His chest felt tight.

Summary
Maybe Yaku was genuinely considering the legitimacy of the claim that they were just close friends. No one else on the team seemed to notice or care, so he wasn’t sure what his reason of curiosity came from.
It still begged the question that Yaku had floating around his head.
