Anxiety peeks out, eyes half-lidded. When her gaze lands on the clock, she groans, pulling the blankets to shelter her face once more.
“It’s too early,” comes the muffled complaint.
Joy raises a brow, leaning in.
“Well,”—she pulls back the sheets enough to meet Anxiety’s eyes—“not everyone is up ‘til two in the morning hammering away at work when she should be in bed with her girlfriend.”

Summary
"Why are you still awake?" Joy asks, voice hushed.
Before she has a chance to respond, Joy is pulling off her covers, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes as she swings her legs over the side of the bed. Anxiety tenses.
"It's nothing! No reason for you to get up, Joy." The attempt at stability in her tone fails as her voice wavers pitifully. In lieu of that, Anxiety tugs her sheets up until they are nearly covering her eyes and rolls to face the wall. "Goodnight!"
or, Anxiety is nervous about Riley’s upcoming test. Joy realizes there might be more to it than that.

“Hold on,” Max interrupts, a smile pulling at his lips. "Knitting?”
Bradley’s eyebrows shoot up. He clears his throat, eyes landing on the empty space over Max’s left shoulder in favour of his narrow-eyed, teasing gaze. "It was suggested to me by an acquaintance of mine."
"An... acquaintance." Max echoes.
"Yes," Bradley replies sharply, "acquaintance, advisor, confidante." Then, as if choked out from the back of his throat, "Therapist."
"Oh," is all Max says, stupidly.
or, In which Max nearly eats shit on the pavement, Bradley admits to a new hobby, and apologies are (almost) attempted.
