“My father wants you to come with us to Summerhall.”
Egg said one afternoon while they sat together. Duncan gave him a look, contemplative.
“He does?”
“Mhm. Once Baelor is well enough to travel, we’ll be going to Summerhall. I want you to join me, Ser.” Egg said, in that prepubescent pitched voice of his.
“Would that be wise?” Duncan asked.

Summary
"I smelled you," Dunk said. He kept his hands open, palms out. "I know what you are. That’s why you hate me. Not because I hit you. But because I know you're not…"
"Say it," Aerion breathed. His hand dropped to the dagger at his belt. "Say it and I will carve the word from your heart."
"You're not a monster," Dunk said, ignoring the blade. "You're just… terrified. You act like a beast so no one tries to claim you."
It was the understanding that did it. If Dunk had mocked him, if Dunk had laughed, Aerion might have killed him cold.
But the pity—the gentle, bovine, Alpha pity in Dunk’s eyes—shattered him.
Dunk helps Aerion feel safe in his identity, but it’s not an easy road. Toxicity ensues.

Summary
On the eve of what would be remembered as The Hedge Knight, while Lord Beron Stark lay dying of wounds that would not close—
There was Dunk.
A bastard son, born of a woman long forgotten. Tall from the first, broad and solemn, he had been called “Dunk the Tall” in rough jest before ever his blood was set to parchment. The jest faded. The name endured.
Now he was simply Dunk.
The old gods had given him back—not as a shadow in the wolfswood, but in flesh and breath. Stark blood ran cold in his veins. Within him lingered the memories of another life: Ser Duncan the Tall, hedge knight, bearer of battered honor.
And deeper still lay knowledge.
He knew what was coming.
Dunk of Winterfell.
Bastard.
Stark.
Reborn beneath the silent gaze of the old gods—who do not forget, and do not forgive.

Summary
Months after the legal dust settles, a chance encounter in a Shoreditch alley changes everything. Dunk finds the man who nearly destroyed him, Aerion Targaryen.
He then goads Dunk into the very violence he once feared, whispering, "I need someone to see how ugly I am inside and not look away. I need someone to treat me like I deserve".
What follows is a night that leaves Dunk "reeling," physically and emotionally scarred.

Summary
“I sent you to Lys to grow out of the arrogant boy you were,” Maekar said, his voice cold enough to still the room, “and instead you return having let some lowborn mount you like a mare, with a bastard in your arms, as though whoring yourself had not been humiliation enough.”
His gaze lowered briefly to the child, the contempt in it barely concealed.
Duncan froze where he stood, something in his chest tightening at the way the prince spoke, the disdain directed not only at Aerion but at the small boy who stood beside him. Before he had fully thought it through, the hedge knight stepped forward and placed himself between them.
“He is not a bastard, Your Grace,” Duncan said, his voice steadier than he felt. “He has Prince Aerion's dragon blood, and that is enough.”
When Duncan is sent to Lys to bring Aerion back to Summerhall four years after his exile, he does not expect to find the once-arrogant prince working in a brothel to fend for a bastard child who looks oddly familiar. Prince Maekar does not take the news kindly.
