“I knew that business about being followed was a load of crap,” Kiryu grumbled. He slid out from beneath Majima’s arm and took a step back. “Did you really have to call me all the way down here to pick a fight? We could’ve just had it out at the taxi stand, niisan.”
Majima grinned at him again, and the snake on his breast seemed to grin with him. “If ya figured it was a setup, ya coulda just, y’know… not shown up.” He gestured demonstratively with a leather-gloved hand toward Kiryu’s visibly present-and-accounted-for body. “If ya had a prior engagement, ya coulda said sorry, Majima-no-niisan, gonna take a rain check when I was spoilin’ for that game of shogi. Coulda walked right out the door when ya saw your ol’ buddy chuckin’ balls in the bowlin’ alley last week, for that matter.”
